Connecting people all over the world, postal services are represented by a multitude of retail outlets, numerous mail handling facilities, millions of mail delivery points and a full range of business and government agency services. We all want efficient services and we want them to be at the right price. Mastersoft have been able to help with achieving these aims.
New Zealand Post has played an important role within New Zealand communities for over 170 years. They recognise that how they do business affects a lot of people. Always striving to improve postal services, they created SendRight™ postal standards for address accuracy. This helps their customers improve the quality of addresses and performance of their mail, whilst achieving more efficient, streamlined and accurate data management processes. It also gives the ability to achieve bulk mailing discounts. Mastersoft are delighted to have been able to play a key role in helping make this happen and was the first software vendor to achieve SendRight™ status.
The new addressing standards and post coding system was introduced by New Zealand Post with one core goal being to increase postcode usage. Achieving this objective was complemented by the ability to provide internal and external stakeholders with new tools to assist with data upgrades. The attractiveness of service offerings, and the provision of appropriate tools and support, played a key role in the adoption and use of the new standards and new postcodes, with the introduction of the Address and Postcode Finder on New Zealand Post’s website.
Flexibility was key to Mastersoft’s approach in providing the solution required to meet New Zealand Post’s comprehensive needs with this project.
The Mastersoft solution was developed around address validation, matching and verification of user input. The solution components needed to be scalable and aligned with the New Zealand Post predictions of increased usage of the Address and Postcode Finder over time. It needed to support street number ranges, street search reporting and correct post coding when streets cross postcode boundaries. Rural and box/bag data matching functionality was also added, as was support for compound names, misspelling, synonyms, alternative and adjacent suburbs and localities. All implemented as a webservice, providing address matching to both the Address and Postcode Finder and internal New Zealand Post business units.
